I give piano lessons in my home studio in Fishers, Indiana to students of all ages in the Fishers and surrounding areas.
My studio features a grand piano plus 2 digital pianos, countless games, iPads and manipulatives designed to make learning piano a fun and enriching experience for students.
Students learn piano performance, technique, theory, style and interpretation as well as ensemble playing, drawing upon recognized methods, classical, jazz and popular music.
My Philosophy
I love music. I love playing and teaching music. My mission in teaching piano is to instill in my students a lifelong love for music. I want students to be curious and driven to learn as much as they can about music.
I believe everyone has the potential to learn music and the right to experience music through performance, listening to and creating music.
I recognize that individuals have different strengths and weaknesses as well as different likes and dislikes concerning music. Therefore, as much as possible, I try to make my teaching as individual as my students. I am constantly trying new ideas and honing my skills as a teacher.
Finally, although I recognize that we are all different, I have high expectations of all my students, whether they want to be contest winners or just play for fun. Students do not need to be patronized. They need to be guided to become the best they can be.
Although I mainly use traditional methods and the classics to teach, I have often selected materials from popular, jazz, Broadway and other musical styles, depending on my students’ needs and preferences and the availability of materials to address those needs.
About Me
I have a master's of music degree in piano pedagogy from Butler University in Indianapolis.
I belong to several local and national music teacher organizations including Music Teachers National Association, Indiana Music Teachers Association, Indianapolis Piano Teachers Association (secretary, 2nd vice president, treasurer, president), Indianapolis Piano Teaching Guild (membership chair), and the Greater Indianapolis Music Teachers Association.
I am proud to say that I am the central Indiana district coordinator for Hoosier Auditions, an Indiana Music Teachers Association event that allows students to play competitively or for comments from judges. I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing students arrive for Hoosier Auditions, hearing wonderful performances and having the honor of announcing winners. I regularly volunteer my time at other local clinics and festivals for piano students, such as Achievement in Music and National Federation Junior Festival. I love accompanying student instrumentalists at ISSMA and have had the opportunity to judge piano performances at the State Fair and in other events. I enjoy working with students of all ages and experience levels.
